Water damage and restoration on Google Maps: the fewest companies closed on weekends and the smallest review gap

We counted four trades on Google Maps. Water damage and restoration has the fewest companies closed all weekend and the smallest review gap between the top of the list and the rest. Only 14.0% of the restoration companies that list hours are closed both Saturday and Sunday. In a typical search, the top 3 listings have a median of 57 reviews (the middle count: half have more, half have fewer), and the companies ranked 4 to 20 have a median of 47.

Weekend hours: lowest of the four trades

Fewer water damage companies list themselves as closed all weekend than in any other trade we counted: 14.0%. For HVAC it was 29.0%, for roofing 33.5% and for plumbing 35.6%.

These are the hours a company lists on Google. They don't show whether anyone answers the phone at 2 AM on a Sunday.

Reviews: the smallest gap between the top 3 and the rest

For each search, we took the median review count of the top 3 listings and of ranks 4 to 20. Across 2,427 searches, the middle values were 57 for the top 3 and 47 for the rest.

A 10-review gap is the smallest of the four trades. In HVAC the same two numbers were 271 and 69. Google weighs reviews along with many other things, so treat these counts as a picture of the list, not the reason for anyone's spot in it.

No website on the profile

Of the water damage and restoration companies we counted, 13.6% list no website on their Google profile. A company in that group may still have a site that the profile doesn't link to.

What a restoration owner can check this week

  1. Search "water damage" and your town on Google Maps, and see how many reviews the first 3 companies have.
  2. Read the weekend hours on your Google profile. If your crew takes weekend calls, put those hours there.
  3. See whether your profile shows your website, and add it if it doesn't.
  4. Ask every customer for a review once the drying is done.

How we counted

Source: 10,101 saved Google Maps searches, Oct 5 to 25, 2026, 4 trades.

Three counting rules:

  • Each company is counted once.
  • A listing with no reviews counts as 0.
  • Searches with fewer than 10 results are skipped.

What these numbers don't show:

  1. Listed hours on Google, not whether a company answers the phone. Companies with no hours listed are left out.
  2. Each company counted once per trade. A trade search can include companies from other trades.
  3. Reviews are one of many things Google weighs, and these counts don't show that more reviews move a company up. A listing with no reviews counts as 0. Searches with fewer than 10 results are skipped.
  4. "No website" means no website is listed on the Google profile. The company may still have a site.
  5. When we searched the same place a second time, we left that second search out. Counting it would change each percent above by less than half a point.

This group also takes in about 70 searches for "water damage repair" and "water mitigation". Counting restoration searches alone gives 13.7% closed weekends, 13.6% no website and 57 vs 47 reviews, so the picture barely moves.

Our local search data pages count something else: listings per city, each with its own search date. This page counts companies across the 10,101 saved searches from Oct 5 to 25.
