Closed all weekend: highest of the four trades

35.6% of the plumbing companies that list hours on Google show both weekend days as closed. That's more than roofing (33.5%), HVAC (29.0%) or water damage (14.0%).

People often call a plumber in an emergency, so here's the limit up front: we counted the hours listed on Google. We can't see whether a company picks up the phone on a Saturday anyway.

No website on the profile: also the highest

Nearly a quarter of the plumbers we counted (24.3%) have no website in their Google profile, the most of any trade in the study. Some may run a site that's simply not linked.

Reviews at the top of the list

In a typical plumbing search, the top 3 listings have a median of 153 reviews (the middle count: half have more, half have fewer), and the companies ranked 4 to 20 have a median of 59. Reviews are only part of what Google looks at, so these numbers show how the list looks, not why it's in that order.

Four things a plumber can do this week

  1. On Google Maps, search "plumber" with your town, and see how many reviews the top 3 have.
  2. Open your profile's hours. If you answer emergency calls on weekends, show that there.
  3. Add your website to your profile if it isn't there.
  4. Ask every customer for a review once the work is finished.

How we counted

Source: 10,101 saved Google Maps searches, Oct 5 to 25, 2026, 4 trades.

Three counting rules:

  • Each company is counted once.
  • A listing with no reviews counts as 0.
  • Searches with fewer than 10 results are skipped.

What these numbers don't show:

  1. Listed hours on Google, not whether a company answers the phone. Companies with no hours listed are left out.
  2. Each company counted once per trade. A trade search can include companies from other trades.
  3. Reviews are one of many things Google weighs, and these counts don't show that more reviews move a company up. A listing with no reviews counts as 0. Searches with fewer than 10 results are skipped.
  4. "No website" means no website is listed on the Google profile. The company may still have a site.
  5. When we searched the same place a second time, we left that second search out. Counting it changes each percent by 0.4 points or less.

Our local search data pages count something else: listings per city, each with its own search date. This page counts companies across the 10,101 saved searches from Oct 5 to 25.
