Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help your local ranking. Local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence (how well known the business is).

What to do with that
- Ask every customer for a review while the job is fresh.
- Send a direct review link by text or email.
- Reply to every review in your own words.
- Never buy reviews or offer a reward for them. Google can remove reviews and penalize the profile.

There is no fixed number. Look at the companies above you and aim to match their count and recent activity.
Do bad reviews hurt?
A low score can hurt, but a calm reply helps the next customer reading it.
Do reviews on other sites count?
Google reviews are the ones that show on your Google profile. Other sites matter for trust but do not change that count.
