How do you get your business to show up on Google Search?

Claim your free Google Business Profile, then make sure your website says what you do and where you do it. These two are the base for being found by people searching nearby.

The short steps

  1. Create or claim your Business Profile at google.com/business and finish Google's verification.
  2. Pick the right main category (for example "HVAC contractor" or "Plumber") and list your service area.
  3. Put your business name, address and phone number on your website exactly as they appear on your profile.
  4. Our advice: give each main service its own page, with the city you serve in the page title.
  5. Search your business name, then your service plus your city, and note where you appear.

FAQ

Do I have to pay Google to be listed?

No. A Business Profile and a normal website listing are free. Ads are separate and stop when you stop paying.

Why can I find my business by name but not by service?

Google is sure who you are but not yet sure you are the best match for the service. Add service pages and more profile detail. Google says local results rest on relevance, distance and prominence (support.google.com/business/answer/7091).

What if I serve a city I do not have an office in?

Add it as a service area on your profile, and write a page for that city on your site.
